Protest Against the Arrest of Jamshed Yorov in Warsaw
Tajikistan citizens today staged protest against the arrest of lawyer Jamshed Yorov in Warsaw.
Tajik protesters including women assembled in front of OSCE office in Warsaw, Poland on Wednesday, 31 August 2016 to criticize the arrest of lawyer Jamesh Yorov, the younger brother of jailed lawyer Buzurgmehr Yorov and mistreatment of political prisoners.
The demonstrators called on the international community not to remain silent in what is going in Tajikistan against peaceful lawyers and activists.
The crowds were chanting “Freedom to #Jamshed Yorov” and “Free all Tajik political prisoners”. The protesters held banners demanding freedom for all jailed lawyers and political activists.
This is not the first protest against the arrest of this lawyer. Last Friday, 26 August 2016, a group of more than 60 protesters gathered outside UN office in Bonn, Germany demanding freedom of Jamshed Yorov.
Tajik authorities claim that Jamshed Yorov published the full text of the verdict against the leaders of the opposition Islamic Renaissance Party (IRPT). The question is why the verdict is secret and not a public document.
This means that Tajik authorities have not evidence against the IRPT’s jailed members. Otherwise, why a verdict is secret?
